One of the four original elements of the Hip Hop culture will now find itself featured as a gold medal sport starting in the 2024 summer Olympic games which will be in Paris.
The International Olympic Committee has decided to add the event in order to attract younger audiences. The concept was originally suggested two years ago after being tested at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.
16 individuals in both men’s and women’s will be debut in the competition which will officially be called “Breaking”.
It has turned out to be a controversial announcement as some question the adding of the event over other categories as boxing and weightlifting.
While some are celebrating it as a win for the hip hop culture.
Breakdancing along with deejaying, MCing and graffiti painting are the four elements that originated the hip hop culture in the Bronx, New York in the late 1970s.
